Quincy Crawford’s advancement in the industry is testimony to hard work and perseverance. Starting his professional life as a schoolteacher and coach, Quincy made the move to financial services in 1968 as an agent for Fidelity Union selling life insurance policies to college students.
Quincy soon took on increasing responsibilities, first with Fidelity and then with The Home Life of New York. In 1983, he became a general agent for Guardian Life Insurance Company of America, where he would spend the rest of his career. He is the only general agent in Maryland to start a scratch agency and, without the benefit of mergers, qualify for GAMA International’s Master Agency Award. In 1995, 1998, and 2001, his agency received The Guardian’s highest honor: the President’s Trophy for overall agency excellence, which can only be awarded to an agency once every three years.
Quincy has also been a leader within GAMA International, with long-term service on the Finance Committee. He has served for the past six years as GAMA’s treasurer and as a member of the Executive Committee. He is a regular speaker at GAMA events. In 2006, Quincy was inducted into the GAMA International Management Hall of Fame — the highest honor given by the financial services industry in recognition of an individual field leader whose professional career has been spent building organizations and promoting the industry.
Throughout his career, Quincy made his mark by developing those around him. His trademark phrase — agents may bring you premium, but it is management that builds your business — has resonated with financial services leaders around the world.
